What is a school inspection?

A school inspection is a process of evidence gathering in order to provide an assessment of how well a school is performing. This is achieved using analysis of data, observation of lessons, interviews with teachers, analysis of students' work and meetings with parents, students and governors. Inspections must be conducted by teams of inspectors, led by a registered inspector, and must result in a written report.
